Andrea Mitchell
Andrea Mitchell is an American anchor for a television newscast and a anchor and commentator on NBC News based in Washington D.C. Growing up within New York City, Mitchell received a degree in English literature at The University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell started in the field of radio and television reporter in Philadelphia, KYW Radio and TV. She was then a reporter for the CBS-affiliated WDVM-TV, (then WTOP), which was based in Washington DC. Within two years she joined NBC News as a Washington correspondent. 1980 began her coverage of the White House. 1988 became the chief congressional journalist. Mitchell was promoted to the chief White House correspondent in 1992. and Chief Foreign Affairs Correspondent at NBC News. Mitchell hosted and was a panelist at the TV show Meet the Press. Mitchell joined the panel during 1988's presidential debates, that pitted George Bush against Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell received the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in 2005 from the John F. Kennedy School of Government. The Radio-Television News Directors Association awarded Mitchell Leonard Zeidenberg the award in 2004 for her role in defending First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell's initial White House coverage was for NBC News, between 1981-1988. The time span covered both Ronald Reagan terms in office. Mitchell reported on a variety of noteworthy stories, such as the Iran-Contra scandal, fiscal tax reforms, and arms control. Mitchell traveled together with Reagan on numerous occasions to meet with Reagan several times for summits, and to discuss matters like and the Iran Contra controversy.
